Yannic van Overbeeke joined the Growth Hacking Traineeship in November 2018. He started working at Rituals during his traineeship and continued to work there afterwards. Now, years after the Traineeship, he still works at Rituals as a Senior SEA Coordinator. We’ve interviewed him just after the Traineeship.

Why did you join The Talent Institute?
There are three reasons why I chose to join The Talent Institute. First of all, it’s because of their strong focus on the start-up & scale-up scene in Amsterdam. Secondly, the first month of full-time internal training really kickstarts your learning curve and finally, it’s the large international network of young professionals and companies you become emersed in.
If you surround yourself with ambitious and like-minded people, I believe this enables you to be the best you can be. 

What are you doing now?
After the first month of internal training at The Talent Institute, I started at Rituals, which I was — and still, am — very excited about.
At Rituals, I focus on Paid Search, also known as SEA. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure what to think of this. I was afraid that it would be kind of boring and way too specific for a young Growth Hacker like me. Boy, was I wrong!

I was immediately given the opportunity to experiment, and as a bonus, I visited the Google EMEA headquarters in Dublin to understand the basics of Google Ads and several other Google products. This was about 6 months ago, and I am still learning new things every single day. I have learned just a fraction of what the opportunities are in regards to Growth Hacking SEA, but I am getting there for sure.

I currently still work at Rituals as a Sr. SEA Coordinator. For me, one of the greatest things about working for a fast-growing scale-up like Rituals is that everyone still has the start-up or Growth Mindset’, but we also have the resources to go all in and use high-quality tools. For me, the Growth Hacking traineeship was the perfect way to start my journey.

What is your biggest takeaway from the Growth Hacking traineeship?
To embrace the growth mindset, for sure. From the very first month at The Talent Institute, this has been one of the most important things that I have learned. It’s a way of thinking that makes you look at problems and challenges more optimistically and with an open mind. Do you know what the best thing about this is? With a mindset like this, you can never fail. In the worst-case scenario, you will only learn. For me personally, it makes learning and working more challenging and competitive. In my opinion, this contributes greatly to the joy I experience while I work.
